A practical typing guide
How to Type Telugu on Mobile
Use the website for a short Telugu draft, or add a Telugu keyboard for writing directly in other apps. Keep the phone’s keyboard choice and this editor’s output mode clear as you switch between them.
Open the typing toolType Telugu in your phone’s browser
- Open the typing editor in your usual browser. For sound-based input, use your phone’s English keyboard and keep the editor’s Telugu output mode selected.
- Type
namaskaramand choose నమస్కారం from the suggestions. Tap a different spelling if it is the one you intend. - In a short viewport, swipe the candidate row sideways to reach additional spellings or Keep English. Review the text before copying it.
This is transliteration, not translation: type the sounds of a Telugu word, rather than an English sentence to translate. New suggestions require internet access. Existing text remains editable when a request fails.
Add Telugu to Android Gboard
A system keyboard lets you write directly in your destination app. Google’s Gboard language instructions describe this setup:
- Open a text field with Gboard, then open its Settings → Languages → Add keyboard.
- Select Telugu and choose the layout you want. Google’s supported-language list includes Telugu layouts and transliteration. Confirm with Done.
- Touch and hold the space bar to switch languages. You can also enable the language-switch key in Gboard preferences.
Menu labels depend on your Android version, device and Gboard release. Adding a keyboard language does not require changing the phone’s display language. If you already use a native Telugu keyboard, you can enter Telugu directly in another app instead of copying from a website.
Add a Telugu keyboard on iPhone
Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard, choose Telugu and select the layout offered by your version. Use the globe key while typing to switch keyboards. Follow Apple’s keyboard setup guide for the controls on your device.
Apple lists Telugu keyboard options, including transliteration, in its feature availability reference. Availability and layout names vary with system version. If an option is missing, check the version-specific support information rather than assuming that a different keyboard label works the same way.
When using the website’s phonetic editor, keep an English phone keyboard for Roman spellings. If your phone keyboard already produces Telugu, the editor’s English mode keeps the characters as entered, including Telugu text, without requesting phonetic candidates.
Keep English names, numbers and line breaks
For a name such as Anu, tap English in the editor before typing it. Switch back to Telugu for another phonetic word. Keep English preserves one active word without changing the whole mode. Digits, punctuation and emoji can stay with the message.

Use the keyboard’s return/new-line key where available. Check the lines in the editor and again after pasting; destination apps can give Enter a different action. For chat-specific checks and sending behaviour, follow the WhatsApp message guide.
Copy text and keep a browser draft
Choose Copy text, wait for confirmation, then switch apps and paste into the intended field. If automatic copying is unavailable, follow the editor’s selected-text prompt and use your phone’s native Copy menu. Inspect the pasted result before sending.
Enable Save a draft on this device and check the save status before leaving. Your latest draft can be restored for up to 30 days after editing in the same browser profile. Safari, Chrome and an in-app browser can have separate storage; drafts do not sync between devices. Private browsing, cleared site data or unavailable storage can remove a saved copy. Read the draft privacy details.
Download TXT for a separate text copy, or DOCX for an editable document. Your phone’s browser determines where downloads appear. The Word document guide explains DOCX, fonts and paragraph spacing.
Fix common phone typing problems
- Suggestions are loading or unavailable: keep the original text, check your connection and tap Retry when shown. You can copy or download the current text while the service is unavailable.
- A pasted paragraph stays Roman: pasted text is kept as entered. Put the cursor in one Roman Telugu word and choose Get suggestions. An English sentence is not translated.
- The phone keyboard covers a control: scroll within the page or briefly dismiss the keyboard. For the compact candidate row, swipe horizontally rather than moving the whole page sideways.
- Copying shows older text: return to the editor and copy the current version again. Another app can replace the clipboard.
- A draft does not return: check that you opened the same browser profile and had saving enabled. Use a downloaded backup when the browser’s stored copy is unavailable.
